Three people killed in head-on collision in Madison County
Three people died in a head-on collision Friday morning on Illinois 4 in Madison County, Illinois State Police said.
The names of the victims were not released.
One vehicle was traveling south on Illinois 4 just north of Old State Route 4 while another vehicle was going north when for unknown reasons, the southbound vehicle crossed the centerline and caused a head-on collision at 3:44 a.m., according to preliminary information gathered by Illinois State Police.
The southbound vehicle was occupied by a male and the northbound vehicle was occupied by two females, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.
All three persons were declared deceased at the scene.
No other information about the victims or their vehicles has been released.
The roadway reopened at 8:20 a.m.
