Three displaced after fire burns Alorton home

Two children and their mother were displaced late Sunday after their Alorton home burned.

Alorton Fire Chief Jesse Liddell said Monday that he was the first to arrive at the home in the 4000 block of McCallum Court shortly before midnight Sunday. He said part of the house was fully engulfed by fire before he and his crews knocked down the flames.

Liddell said the worst of the damage was limited to the kitchen and living room of the home but the whole structure sustained smoke and water damage. He said an investigator with the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the fire was accidental and started when unattended cooking caught fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with clothing, food and shelter. Liddell said fire crews from the Church Road, Camp Jackson and Fairmont City fire departments assisted at the scene.
