Authorities release i.d. of apartment complex resident who died in Cahokia Heights fire

A resident of a Cahokia Heights senior apartment complex died after a fire at the facility on Wednesday.

Judy St. John, 82, who lived at Touchette Elderly Apartments, was pronounced dead at 3:54 p.m. on Wednesday, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. The complex is located at 5880 Bond Avenue, Cahokia Heights.

Assistant Chief Sharon Davis of the Camp Jackson Fire Department told the BND on Wednesday that one person died and many were rescued from the complex. Chief Chris Davis said over 50 were rescued.

The five-alarm fire was reported at 2:14 p.m. The Camp Jackson Fire Department led the response with multiple departments assisting.
