Swansea to see the return of a popular salon in a new location. Here’s what to know

A new Great Clips location will soon open in Swansea Plaza at 2651 N. Illinois St., between SSM Health Physical Therapy and Subway.

A few permits are pending approval, but the hope is that the salon can open later this week or next week, according to general manager Karlotta Keppel.

The opening comes more than a year after the salon closed a location across the street at 2708 N. Illinois.

Keppel said she worked at that location, which closed in October 2022. It was later decided to reopen the salon in a new location.

The former site currently houses Custom Fades Barber Shop, which opened in September.

Mark Pearl of the Desco Group, which owns Swansea Plaza, said Great Clips is a great addition to the group of businesses that also includes Schnucks, Dollar Tree, India’s Oven, Li Chinese Restaurant and Wild Birds Unlimited.

The first Great Clips location opened near the University of Minnesota in 1982, according to the website.

The business is 100% franchised and touts itself as a place to find “fast, convenient, walk-in haircare services for everyone in the family.”

Great Clips has more than 4,400 locations in the U.S. and Canada and includes salons in Belleville, Collinsville, O’Fallon, Edwardsville, Waterloo, Highland, Wood River and Alton.
