Identities of two people killed in metro-east fire released by St. Clair County coroner
The identities of two people who died in a weekend fire in East St. Louis were released Tuesday.
Lisa Farmer, 58, of 546 North 13th St., was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
The second victim, Stanley Scott, 55, of 546 North 13th Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:12 a.m., Dye said.
Two others, whose identities have not been released, escaped from the building before firefighters arrived, according to East St. Louis Assistant Fire Chief Ed Wayne. He did not know if they required medical attention.
The fire was reported around 5 a.m. at what appeared to be a boarding house at 546 North 13th St.
Wayne said flames were shooting through the roof from the front side of the building when he and his crews arrived.
He did not immediately know what started the fire.
Fire crews worked from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. at the scene, said Assistant Fire Chief Lamont Jones.
“There were four people inside of the two- story building,” he said. “ Two people had gotten out. We covered two bodies, one male, one female.”
