Identity of man killed in house fire released by St. Clair County coroner

The St. Clair County coroner has released the identity of the man killed in an East St. Louis house fire Friday.

Isaiah Parker, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire at 571 N. 25th Street, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said Saturday.

The fire was reported at 3:17 a.m.. Friday.

The burning house was initially reported as being vacant, but firefighters soon found there were people inside.

“The call came in as a vacant structure fire,” said Ed Wayne, assistant fire chief of the East St. Louis Fire Department. “ A lady jumped out of a window. We learned later that someone else was inside with her.”

The identity of the woman was not released.

The fire was out by 6:30 a.m. Part of the shell of the house was left standing, though essentially it was gutted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Wayne said.
