Police release name of teen killed in Madison County crash

A Bethalto teenager died in a single-vehicle crash, Bethalto police said.
Drew Abernathy, 18, was identified as the victim after authorities were called about 8:20 p.m. Sunday, Bethalto Police Chief Jason Lamb said Monday.
Abernathy was driving a Dodge Avenger at a “high rate of speed” going south on East Airline Drive and the car left the roadway at the intersection with Buchta Road, Lamb said.
The car went airborne and ended up about 100 feet from the street.
Abernathy was the sole occupant of the car.
