A 29-year-old East Alton man was fatally struck by an Amtrak train, police said Wednesday.

Ronrecco V. Taylor, who was homeless, was pronounced deceased on the scene, the East Alton Police Department said in a news release.

Police officers and firefighters were called at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday to the railroad tracks near the 100 block of Goulding Street for a pedestrian hit by a train, according to the news release. The Amtrak train that hit Taylor was going south on Union Pacific Railroad tracks.

The death appears to be “accidental in nature,” the release states.

The police department is investigating Taylor’s death with the assistance of the Madison County Coroner’s Office, Amtrak and Union Pacific Railroad.

“Unfortunately, the Village of East Alton tragically lost one of our citizens last night,” the police department said in Facebook post. “The EAPD sends its condolences out to the friends and family of Ronrecco Taylor.”

No other information was released.
