Excessive heat warning extended through Wednesday

Oppressive heat will linger in the metro-east a day longer than originally expected.

The National Weather Service has extended its excessive heat warning for the metro-east until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The high temperature is expected to reach 93 with a heat index of 107. Skies will be partly sunny with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms popping up throughout the day.

The temperature will drop to 67 Wednesday night under partly sunny skies.

The high Thursday will be 88 under sunny skies. Thursday night, the low will be 67 and skies will be mostly clear.

Skies will be sunny again on Friday with a high of 89. Friday night, the low will be 69 and skies will be mostly clear.

The extended forecast calls for moderate temperatures and mostly dry weather for the weekend.

Highs will be 87 on Saturday and 88 Sunday. It will be sunny Saturday and mostly sunny Sunday with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.
