Bicyclist dies after being hit by person charged in Madison County with DUI

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Livingston and the motorist has been charged with driving under the influence, Illinois State Police said.

The names of the two people involved have not been released as of Friday.

The crash occurred at about 7:48 p.m. Tuesday on West Frontage Road at Oak Street in Livingston in Madison County, according to a news release from state police on Wednesday.

The bicyclist and vehicle were both going south on West Frontage Road when the collision occurred, according to preliminary information gathered by state troopers.

The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital and pronounced deceased while the vehicle driver was not injured.

Macoupin County Coroner Anthony Kravanya said he was investigating the case since the victim died in Macoupin County but he said Wednesday that he was not able to release information about the victim.

Illinois State Police said no other information about the investigation was available.
