St. Clair County coroner IDs one of two hit-and-run victims killed on Illinois 15
The St. Clair County coroner has identified one of the two pedestrians fatally struck in a hit-and-run collision on Illinois 15 in Cahokia Heights.
Stacey Cullen, 55, was pronounced deceased at the scene Sunday night, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
His last known address was in the 4300 block of East Broadway in Cahokia Heights.
The name of a woman who was with Cullen has not been released.
She was taken to an area hospital, where she later died from the injuries she sustained, Cahokia Heights Detective Michael A. Baxton said.
Police are still trying to identify her, Baxton said
The pedestrians were crossing Illinois 15, also known as Missouri Avenue, just southeast of Pocket Road, about 7:20 p.m. Sunday, when they were hit by a silver BMW going northwest toward East St. Louis, Cahokia Heights Sgt. Chris McGinnis said.
The man and woman weren’t at an intersection or in a crosswalk.
The driver of the BMW has not been located but the person abandoned the vehicle at the crash scene.
The BMW is registered in Missouri, but police believe the owner recently sold it, McGinnis said. The vehicle hadn’t been reported as stolen.
