Heil Sound expanding in Fairview Heights

Heil Sound is adding to its warehouse of microphones, speakers and other audio equipment it supplies to the world from Fairview Heights.

Company president Sarah Heil said they have run out of room at 5800 N. Illinois St. Another 3,200 square feet of space is being added to the warehouse. Bob Heil founded the now-international company in 1966 when he opened Ye Olde Music Shop in his hometown of Marissa. Heil, who is now semi-retired, is an accomplished organ player and has tinkered with speakers and microphones. He relocated the business to Fairview Heights in 1994. Today, Heil Sound manufactures microphones and sound systems for both professional and amateur clients around the world.

In Belleville, 4204 Main Street Brewing Co. is also expanding its space at its microbrewery and restaurant at 4204 W. Main St. while also converting an adjacent building to a beer canning site. The former Popeye’s next door at 4130 W. Main St. has undergone an exterior remodeling and will soon be a canning 4204 Main Street Brewing Co. beer. Stay tuned.

Custom Sounds has relocated and reopened in Fairview Heights. The business now offers car audio, security, window tinting and stereo installation at the former fire station at 626 Lincoln Highway after years at 5350 N. Illinois St.

Dollar Tree has opened a new store in Highland. The dollar retailer has opened for business at 1016 Broadway, where former competitor Family Dollar had been. Dollar Tree completed its acquisition of all Family Dollar stores earlier this month.

And finally, local Casey’s General Stores are raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and its MDA Summer Camp Mobile Program. From Aug. 1 to Sept. 7, Casey’s General Store associates will sell $1 and $5 pin-up mobiles that offer customers the opportunity to help send local children affected by neuromuscular diseases to a week where anything is possible at MDA summer camp at more than 14 different camps in the Casey’s General Store service area — all at no cost to their families. The camp is celebrating its 60th year of service.
