Woman charged in baby’s death is extradited back to St. Clair County

The 25-year-old woman who fled from the metro-east after she was charged with the death of her baby boy was located by the U.S. Marshal’s Service in Mississippi.

Ciara Jackson, of North 23rd Street in East St. Louis, was arrested on Aug. 1 in a suburb near Jackson, Miss. Tom Wood, a deputy U.S. marshal, said the marshal’s service here sent a lead to the marshal’s service in Jackson.”

“We provided them with a last known address where she was known to have frequented. They went to the landlord there and found out she had moved out. But, people there had seen her and knew she was still in the area.. They had seen her off and on for about a week,Wood said.

Then, officers got a tip where she was. When the marshals approached her, she denied that she was Ciara Jackson and gave a different name. Eventually, she confessed her true identity, Wood said.

The charges against Jackson say she delivered the baby boy in a toilet and knowingly let him drown.

She was extradited back to Illinois and is in the St. Clair County jail on $500,000 bond.
