Pedestrian struck by vehicle and killed near Freeburg

A 35-year-old Freeburg man lost his life after he stepped out onto the roadway in the 4900 block of Illinois 13, just south of Freeburg Tuesday, police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was struck by an oncoming vehicle and later died from his injuries at a St. Louis hospital, according to Illinois State Police.

State Police Troop 8 responded to the single-vehicle fatal traffic crash at 10:29 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was a 31-year-old woman from Freeburg, according to police. She reported no injuries at the scene. Her identity has not been released.

“The victim, whose identity has not been released by police, was transported to a regional hospital with life threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital,” state police said in a statement.

The incident remains under investigation, state police said.
