St. Clair County Health Department hosts breastfeeding bistro
To promote National Breastfeeding month, the St. Clair County Health Department will host a breastfeeding bistro from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday in the atrium of the health department. Mothers who are breastfeeding, have breastfed or are planning to breastfeed are invited to attend.
Attendees will get information about diapering and hear testimonies of breastfeeding moms at the event. Light snacks will be provided.
“National breastfeeding month is celebrated every year in August,” said Erin Way, a breastfeeding peer counselor for the health department. “Breastfeeding improves the health of babies. It is a way to provide infants with the nutrients they need so we encourage moms to breastfeed.”
This year’s theme is: “Breastfeeding and Work: Let’s Make it Work.” The goal of campaign is “to support all women, working in both formal and informal sectors to adequately combine work with child-rearing, particularly breastfeeding.”
The health department is located at 19 Public Square in Belleville.
