The body of a Nevada police officer killed in the line of duty will be returned to his hometown in the metro-east for burial.

Jason Roscow, 46, was an officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department when he was dispatched to a call regarding a man pointing a gun on Feb. 4. The suspect ignored Roscow’s commands and opened fire. Both the officer and suspect were killed in the exchange of gunfire, according to a release from the police department.

According to his obituary, Roscow was born in Belleville, raised in Prairie du Rocher and is a graduate of Red Bud High School.

“Jason had a spirit of service at a young age, shown by volunteering as a fireman for the Prairie du Rocher Fire Department,” his obituary says.

He joined the U.S. Air Force and deployed multiple times overseas. After separating from the military service, he remained a lifelong member of V.F.W. Post No. 6632 in Red Bud and American Legion Post No. 622 in Prairie du Rocher, the obituary states. Roscow, a 17-year veteran of the police department, had two sons, Graysen, 9; and Andrew, 4.

“Officer Roscow was more than a colleague, he was a friend, a mentor, and a valued member of our law enforcement family,” the North Las Vegas Police Department said in a statement. “His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy of service and bravery will continue to inspire us all.”

The fallen officer’s body will be returned to his hometown of Prairie du Rocher and a funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17 at the local St. Joseph Catholic Church. A military and first responder walk-through will take place at the same location at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial service for Roscow will also be held at Central Church in Henderson, Nevada, at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The police department says donations for his family should be directed to the official account established through the Injured Police Officer’s Fund at Lexicon Bank, Account #1000010630.
