Employee’s mistake blamed for explosions, evacuation at Wood River Aquatic Center

A mistake by an inexperienced employee is blamed for a series of explosions Tuesday afternoon at the Wood River Aquatic Center.

More than 200 people at the facility were evacuated around 4 p.m. when the problems started. According to fire department reports, an employee caused the explosions by mixing two different types of chlorine, producing a volatile reaction.

No one was injured because of the explosive chemical reaction.

The pool was re-opened a few hours later when the mess was cleaned up.
