A long vacant Fairview Heights restaurant is demolished to make way for new business
Plans to construct a Plaza Tire Service at 218 Lincoln Highway in Fairiview Heights officially started this week with the demolition of the Long John Silver’s building.
Fencing circled the property and heavy equipment was lined up in the lot while workers mounted the roof to prepare the structure to come down. Demolition began Thursday, though slowly due to high winds, said Dallas Alley, land use and development director for Fairview Heights.
He said workers didn’t want to tear into the insulation and other materials that would easily release small particles and debris in the air.
The site is the future home of a new Plaza Tire Service facility that will include a 6,560-square-foot building with around 28 parking spaces.
Once open, the business will offer tire sales, light mechanical services and vehicle maintenance.
Rhodes Development Company LLC is the firm behind the project and acquired the property in an auction last May. The transaction formally closed June 13.
A message left with Rhodes Development regarding a project timeline was not immediately returned.
Rhodes Development Company is also working to bring a Plaza Tire Service to 1501 Golfview Drive in Collinsville.
The developer submitted a request to rezone the property from a commercial district to a planned commercial district, which would allow parking deviations, according to Collinsville city records.
Collinsville City Council voted to rezone the property in January. A site plan is currently in the works.
