One person dead after Fairview Heights crash

One person is dead following a traffic crash in Fairview Heights Tuesday morning.

According to a release from Fairview Heights Police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Illinois Street and Salem Place on the report of the crash at about 11 a.m. There, they found one of those involved unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle.

The person was extricated from the vehicle by officers and Fairview Heights Fire Department members, who immediately began life-saving measures, the release stated. The victim, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Metro-East Crash Assistance Team is assisting with the investigation into what caused the fatal crash.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” the police department release stated.
