St. Clair County will be auctioning off 36 vacant lots it owns in East St. Louis to an interested buyer or buyers.

The properties are located in a neighborhood off of St. Clair Avenue between North 70th and North 72nd streets.

The county acquired them years ago to tear down abandoned and dilapidated buildings on the properties, according to County Building and Zoning Director Anne Markezich. The St. Clair County Board voted at its April meeting to put them up for auction and return the land to the tax rolls.

The properties will be sold individually with a starting bid of $786.

The auction will be conducted by the St. Clair County trustee, Joseph E. Meyer and Associates, on July 25.
