Lightning strikes two metro-east businesses; storms cause power outages
A pair of Cahokia businesses were damaged by lightning during Sunday night storms across the metro-east.
According to fire department reports, lighting struck an electrical transformer on the roof or the Walmart store at 1511 Camp Jackson Road. A second strike caused a small fire at a Praxair distributor near the intersection of Illinois 3 and Judith Lane.
No one was injured and there was no significant damage at either building.
There were reports of power outages overnight in the O’Fallon area.
But, according to Ameren Illinois, there were only about 150 customers without power across St. Clair County and about 60 in Madison County as of about 7 a.m. Two people were without power in Monroe County.
