A 29-year-old man lost his life in a fiery, one-car crash on an East St. Louis interstate Sunday morning.

Jalal Hamed, whose last known address was on Weller Drive in Shiloh, was identified as the victim by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Hamed was in an Infiniti on the southbound Interstate 55 exit ramp to Interstate 64 when the crash occurred at 6:03 a.m. Hamed was pronounced deceased on the scene at 7:06 a.m., Dye said.

The Infiniti overturned and became engulfed in flames, Illinois State Police said in a news release. The Belleville News-Democrat has not confirmed whether Hamed was a passenger or the driver of the Infiniti.

The exit ramp was closed to traffic while state police conducted an investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information to release, according to Illinois State Police.
