If you’re part of the 72% of Belleville residents that don’t have a bachelor’s degree and you’re looking for a job, there are a variety of open positions that don’t require a college education.

Illinois’ statewide unemployment rate held steady at 4.8% in April, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, while the greater St. Louis metropolitan area’s rate was slightly lower at 3.6%. The nation’s unemployment rate sits in between, at 4.2% for April.

Here’s a roundup of five job listings in the metro-east that don’t have a college degree requirement, plus what they pay. Other requirements, such as technical training or field experience, may apply.

Retail sales associate full-time

Employer: PetSmart

Location: Belleville

Job type: Full-time

Wage: $15 to $25.25 per hour

Required qualifications for this position include strong written and verbal communication skills, a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed and the ability to react under pressure and maintain composure, the listing says.

Some physical ability requirements also apply, including the ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds.

Job responsibilities include, according to the listing:

  • “Responsible for the pet parent experience and outcomes conducted in person, over the phone, at the sales register and online.
