‘No Kings’ anti-Trump protests planned in IL cities. When & where they will be
Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, will bring not only a military parade in Washington, D.C., but more than 1,500 “No Kings” protests across the nation, including some in southwestern Illinois.
The D.C. military parade will commemorate the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, and also falls on President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday. Trump has said the parade will include “thundering tanks” and will be like “nothing you’ve ever seen before.”
Protest organizers describe “No Kings” as a “nationwide day of defiance.”
“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services. The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings,” the No Kings website says.
The mass protests come as the president has come into conflict numerous times with the judicial branch over executive actions some voters describe as “overreaching.” The New York Times reports at least 191 rulings have “at least temporarily paused some of the administration’s initiatives” as of Thursday.
No Kings protest organizers said in a Friday press release millions of people are expected to participate in the rallies, and that June 14 is expected to be “the largest single-day mobilization since President Trump returned to office.”
No Kings organizers are not hosting a protest in D.C., but will instead hold their flagship march in Philadelphia. The No Kings webpage explaining organizers’ decision not to host a D.C. rally says “real power isn’t staged in Washington. It rises up everywhere else.”
Where will local protests be held?
As of June 6, seven No Kings protests are planned in the metro-east and greater St. Louis area. No Kings organizers wrote in a June 6 email to the News-Democrat that while more than 1,500 protests are currently planned, the organizers expect more than 1,600 to be slated nationwide by the weekend of June 7 and 8.
Here’s where and when local protests are planned for June 14:
