Coroner releases ID of man who was hit by semi after leaving ambulance on I-70
The Bond County Coroner’s office has released the identity of the man who was killed after he exited an ambulance onto a metro-east interstate early Monday.
Bryan Schuetz, 38, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was in transport from Champaign, Illinois, to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Bond County Coroner Tony Brooks said.
According to Illinois State Police, Schuetz had been in transit for about two hours when he became “combative” and exited the ambulance on I-70 near exit 45 at Greenville. It was there he was struck and killed by a semi truck at about 2:55 a.m., police said.
State police are continuing to investigate and have not released further details.
