ID of pedestrian killed by vehicle on metro-east highway is released

A pedestrian was struck by a car early Tuesday morning on Interstate 255 near Caseyville, and was pronounced dead on the scene, Illinois State Police reported.

A news release said the pedestrian was in the roadway when the car struck the man at approximately 12:44 a.m.

The police closed the road, but reopened it before dawn. The investigation is still ongoing.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the man as Trevor A. Jones, 23, of Kathy Drive, Pontoon Beach. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 a.m., Dye said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, state police said.
