Metro-east woman dies after striking guardrail off St. Louis County interstate

A 44-year-old Alton woman died early Tuesday morning after her vehicle crashed into a guardrail in St. Louis County.

She has yet to be publicly identified by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The woman’s 2025 Honda CRV was traveling west on Interstate 64 at Big Bend Boulevard when it went off the right side of the highway and struck the guardrail, a Missouri State Highway Patrol online crash report states.

The accident reportedly occurred at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday. Richmond Heights Fire Department transported the woman to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where she was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m.

The woman was wearing a seat belt, according to the report. It does not specify the cause of the crash or whether the vehicle had any passengers.
