Illinois State Police Accident Reconstructionists are investigating a fatal crash on Illinois 3 and Ruby Lane Monday morning.

The identities of two people who died in a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning were released by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Monday evening.

Dye said the victims are Brenden Colvin, 26, of 1200 block of Columbia Road in Dupo and Heather N. Jones, 41, of the 2300 block of Old State Road in East Carondelet.

Both were pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:48 a.m., Dye said. Their identities had been withheld until family could be notified.

Cahokia Heights Police Chief Thomas Trice said police received a call reporting the crash Illinois 3 and Ruby Lane early Monday.

The two vehicles involved, a Kia SUV and a GMC pickup truck, were both traveling south on Illinois 3. Colvin and Jones were in a Kia SUV and attempted to pass a GMC pickup truck, but clipped the front end. Neither were wearing a seat belt and both were ejected from the Kia, Trice said.

Police are not sure who was driving the Kia.

“We are waiting on Illinois State Police accident reconstruction team to further the investigation,” Trice said.

Trice said speed is presumed to be a factor in the accident.

No one in the pickup truck was injured, police said.
