Two people had to be taken to the hospital following a multi-vehicle traffic crash Monday on Interstate 64 westbound at Illinois 111 near milepost 6 in Washington Park.

No immediate medical information was available on the injured persons.

A preliminary investigation conducted by Illinois State Police Troop 8 says when troopers responded at 5:25 p.m. Monday, they learned a tractor-trailer car hauler struck the Illinois 111 bridge and reportedly came to a halt in the lane.

A second tractor-trailer then struck the car hauler.

At least two people were taken to area hospitals, a news release from Illinois State Police said.

The I-64 westbound lanes were closed at this location and traffic was diverted onto Illinois 111, which is also known as Kingshighway.

All lanes reopened at approximately 10:17 p.m.

No further information was available regarding this incident, ISP said.
