St. Clair County will soon demolish more derelict properties with grant
St. Clair County will soon demolish more derelict properties using money from a $2 million state grant.
At its Sept. 29 meeting, the St. Clair County Board approved a contract with with Murphy Excavating and Contracting, Inc. for the demolitions of seven structures at six addresses.
This is the fourth round of demolitions the county has announced. It will cost $82,846, according to the contract.
The most expensive demolitions from this round will be a home at 3211 Geitz Ave. in East St. Louis and two structures at 8947 Illinois 163 in Millstadt. The demolitions at each address total more than $19,000.
The rest of the demolitions of badly-damaged structures in Belleville, Millstadt, Cahokia Heights and Collinsville will cost between about $8,700 and $15,300.
To date, the county has spent a total of $783,517 from the grant, leaving $1.2 million remaining.
