UPDATE 11-24-25: This story has been updated with a correction from the coroner on the spelling of the victim’s last name.
A 35-year-old Collinsville woman has been identified as the person killed in a four-vehicle crash in a construction zone on Interstate 64 in O’Fallon.
Courtney Branon was pronounced deceased at the scene Tuesday morning, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said Thursday.
Branon was driving a Ford Bronco in the crash, which occurred about 8 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of I-64 at mile marker 14 near the U.S. 50 exit, according to information from Dye and Illinois State Police.
In addition to the Bronco, there were two tractor-trailers and a utility work truck involved in the crash.
“There were no reported injuries to construction zone workers,” according to an Illinois State Police news release.
Other details of the collision have not been released by state police.
The roadwork is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s preparations for improvements at the Exit 16 ramp to Green Mount Road and additional I-64 work.
