Metro-east healthcare business moving to former Johnny Mac’s in Swansea
After sitting vacant since Johnny Mac’s Sporting Goods closed in 2019, the building at 4500 N. Illinois St. in Swansea is undergoing renovations and will soon house the office of Associated Physicians Group.
“Construction began in the fall and remains on track for completion in late February,” said Christina Rogerson, vice president of human resources and administration for Associated Physicians Group.
The medical group’s current Swansea office, located at 12 Wolf Creek Drive, will relocate to North Illinois Street and occupy one side of the renovated building. The other side will be available for another tenant.
No tenants have been confirmed, but Associated Physicians Group “would welcome another medical or health-related business,” Rogerson said.
The Swansea office is expected to reopen at the new location by the end of February or early March, according to a news release from Associated Physicians Group.
The group’s existing O’Fallon office will remain at 916 Talon Drive.
The 9,728-square-foot building on North Illinois Street was built in 2001. Johnny Mac’s opened there on Feb. 18, 2001, as the chain’s first Illinois location. The company closed all nine of its retail stores in 2019 when it sold its team division to Texas-based BSN Sports.
