How to make the Belleville News-Democrat your preferred source in Google search
You may have noticed your Google search results can be cluttered by inaccurate, artificial intelligence-generated summaries and advertisements. If you’d rather have something like the classic Google experience — where trustworthy results relevant to you file to the top — the tech company recently launched a feature called “Preferred Sources.”
You can get trusted, soundly reported local news on the metro-east by making the Belleville News-Democrat one of your preferred sources, or websites selected by you that Google prioritizes in the “top stories” tab of search results.
To add the News-Democrat as a preferred source, use this link and select the box to the right of bnd.com. You can also select your preferred sources while searching on Google by pressing the icon next to “Top stories.”
The tool is only available to those with a Google account, and you may be asked to log in if you aren’t already. Google said in a blog post the feature is available in English.
The BND, under Executive Editor Todd Eschman, offers comprehensive local news coverage of Belleville, St. Clair County and the greater metro-east, including breaking news, sports, education, dining, accountability and investigations, and more. You can support our work by making the BND a preferred source in Google or with a subscription.
