Coroner IDs man whose body was found on IL 161 in Belleville

Belleville police are investigating the death of a man found along Illinois 161 early Wednesday.

Shawn R. Overmiller, 40, of Windsor Drive in Belleville, was pronounced deceased at the scene, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, Dye said.

Officers were called about 5:22 a.m. to the area of Route 161 and Sullivan Drive for a report of an unconscious man on the side of the road, police said. Police and emergency medical personnel found the man deceased at the scene.

Detectives and the department’s crime scene unit began an investigation and are conducting interviews and gathering information, police said.

Toxicology results are pending. The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
