Investigators are reviewing the death of an Alton infant who was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon.
Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said Wednesday that the investigation continued into the death of 2-month-old Aiden R. Hubbard.
The baby was discovered unresponsive by his mother, Russena Hubbard, at their home in the 3200 block of Oakwood in Alton. She called authorities at 11:28 a.m. The child was without signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:08 p.m. by Madison County Coroner’s Investigator Kelsey Wofford.
An autopsy conducted on Tuesday night failed to show an obvious cause of death, Nonn stated in a press release.
“Routine toxicology tests for the presence of alcohol and drugs as well as microscopic examination are pending,” Nonn said. “No cause of death will be prescribed until completion of testing and review of findings of the investigative process.”
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating the mother for allegations of neglect in connection with the death, according to DCFS spokesman Andrew Flach. There was a previous investigation conducted by the department on Russena Hubbard, but Flach confirmed the investigation was unfounded.
The death is under investigation by the Alton Police Department, who is in consultation with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
