Pedestrian hit by vehicle, killed on metro-east highway

A pedestrian was found dead Tuesday morning after being struck by an unknown vehicle on Illinois 4 at Illinois 143 in Madison County, Illinois State Police said.

Troopers from Illinois State Police Troop 8 were dispatched about 5:09 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian walking in the roadway. Officers arriving at the scene found the person dead down a ditch embankment, police said.

In a release Tuesday afternoon, Madison County Coroner Nicholas P. Novacich identified the victim as 24-year-old Tyler C. Robinson, of Marine. Toxicology tests and an autopsy will be performed, he said.

The driver of the vehicle has been located and is cooperating with authorities, Novacich said.

A preliminary investigation indicates Robinson was hit by a vehicle that left the area. No further information was released.
