Belleville Police investigating death of man found near bike trail

Belleville Police are investigating a death of a 35-year-old male in the 900 block of North Illinois Street Thursday.

Master Sgt. Dan Collins said police responded to a report of a deceased subject in the area around 11:30 a.m. Investigators conducted interviews and determined there were not any signs of foul play, he said.

The St. Clair County Coroner’s office responded. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

Police were in the area until 1:30 p.m., and yellow tape blocked off a small grassy area near the sidewalk as well as a portion of a walking and bike trail near Richland Creek.
