FanDuel closes Fairmount Park’s sportsbook in Collinsville
The last wagers on sports other than horse racing have been cast in the sportsbook at Fairmount Park.
FanDuel, the major online gambling company, on Monday closed the physical space where patrons placed bets on sports at the track in Collinsville.
The decision was part of FanDuel’s restructuring across the country, said Vince Gabbert, general manager of Fairmount Park. Betting on horse racing will continue and the closure will have no impact on the operation of the track, he added.
From January to March, bettors placed 21,000 in-person wagers on professional sports, totaling more than $1.3 million at Fairmount Park. By comparison, more than 26 million bets have been placed online at the racetrack, tallying more than $928 million, according to data from the Illinois Gaming Board.
Just last month, DraftKings, another major online gambling company, closed its sportsbook at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Accel Entertainment purchased the Metro East racetrack in 2024 and changed the name back to Fairmount Park. Previous owners had sold the track’s naming rights to FanDuel, which continued to operate the sportsbook.
When Accel closed Fairmount Park, the Chicago-based company started $100 million worth of renovations last year, including constructing a temporary casino with electronic table games and a restaurant. Last year, Gabbert said a permanent casino would be completed by 2028.
The 101st season of horse racing kicked off at Fairmount Park in mid-April and will run through late October.
A spokesperson for FanDuel said those with winning bets can collect them at Fairmount Park’s sportsbook until June 22.
