A woman was taken to a hospital Thursday afternoon after the car she was driving overturned and ended up in the yard of a Belleville duplex, leaving her with minor injuries.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 1:40 p.m. to the 6200 block of Old St. Louis Road in Belleville for a report of a vehicle that had overturned, trapping the driver.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies at the scene said the woman, whose identity was not released, was eastbound on Old St. Louis Road when she either lost control of her BMW hatchback or swerved to avoid something in the road, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway to the left, strike a tree in the front yard of a duplex and land on its roof.
Bits of debris from the car littered the duplex’s yard alongside small tree limbs that snapped off after the car slammed into the tree. Pieces of turf scraped away from the lawn clung to the roof of the car after it was set upright.
The woman was removed from the vehicle and taken to a hospital. Deputies said additional details about the crash were not available because they had not yet spoken to the woman.
