Business briefing: Noodles & Co. preps for October opening in Shiloh

Noodles & Co. will open its first metro-east restaurant next month in Shiloh.

The Broomfield, Colo.-based restaurant has announced its plans to open at the Green Mount Crossing shopping center on Oct. 1. The menu will feature “serve fresh food fast” with an assortment of pastas, soups, salads and sandwiches.

Big Lots is reporting big earnings for its second quarter. The retail chain’s shares surged more than 10 percent early Friday after earning $17.6 million, or 34 cents per share, for the period that ended Aug. 1. That’s more than the $17.2 million, or 36 cents per share, the company was earning a year ago. Read more here.

U.S. stocks started trading early Friday slightly lower after a sharp two-day surge in the market. Stocks had rebounded on Wednesday and Thursday following large declines recorded on Monday and Tuesday. Early Friday morning, the Dow Jones industrial average had fallen 53 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,602. Find out more here.

Good year is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a new fleet of blimps that will look different than the traditional cigar-shaped aircraft. The new models will have glass cockpits, quieter engines and measure 246 feet long, nearly the length of a football field and 50 feet longer than the old blimps. Learn more here.
