Chance of strong storms late Thursday, much cooler temperatures by weekend

A chance of strong thunderstorms has been added to the forecast for the metro-east for Thursday afternoon and evening.

Skies will be mostly sunny during the day with a high of 82, according to the National Weather Service. But a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms has been added for the afternoon hours.

Storms are even more likely to return in the evening. There is a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms that could include gusty winds and small hail Thursday night when the low will be 62.

There is a 40 percent chance of showers during the day Friday. It will be much cooler with a high of 74 under mostly cloudy skies.

Things will clear up to become partly cloudy Friday night with a low of 52.

Cooler temperatures will remain over the weekend. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 68 Saturday and partly cloudy with a low of 48 Saturday night.

On Sunday skies will be sunny with a high of 71 during the day and mostly clear with a low of 52 at night.
