Sun and increasing temperatures on the way

Sunny skies and increasing temperatures are in the forecast for the next few days for the metro-east.

The high is expected to reach 82 Tuesday under sunny with winds from the south at up to 15 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday night, skies will be mostly clear with a low of 56.

The mercury will rise to 85 Wednesday when skies will again be sunny. Winds will gust from the south at up to 21 mph.

It will be mostly clear with a low of 63 Wednesday night.

The high will shoot up to 89 Thursday when skies will be mostly sunny. That’s nine degrees hotter than the average high temperature of 80 for Sept. 17 in the St. Louis metropolitan area. It’s only four degrees short of the record high of 93 for the date, set in 1997.

A 30 percent chance of thunderstorms is in the forecast for Thursday night when the low will be 69.
