Rush-hour crash ties up traffic on Illinois 15 in Belleville
BELLEVILLE A single-vehicle crash caused a rush-hour traffic backup Thursday afternoon on Illinois 15.
The crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. According to emergency radio transmissions, the vehicle was westbound on Illinois 15 near the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows when it struck the raised concrete area between the westbound and eastbound lanes before overturning.
Westbound traffic was reduced to a single lane that passed by a tan Oldsmobile Bravada that came to rest on its passenger side facing east in the roadway. The traffic jam caused by the crash stretched from the intersection of Illinois 15 and DeMazenod Drive to the Illinois 13 interchange. No one was injured in the crash and it did not appear any other vehicles were involved.
It’s not clear whether the driver of the SUV would be issued a citation. Emergency crews cleared the scene of the crash shortly after 5 p.m.
