Three displaced after fire burns Avery Hill home
The three residents of a home in the Avery Hill subdivision in Belleville were displaced Monday after a fire damaged their home.
Northwest Fire District Chief Dennis Oaks said a mail carrier in the neighborhood heard a smoke detector activating and saw smoke coming from the back of the home in the 200 block of Avery Hill early Monday afternoon and called 911. Fire crews arrived to find a fire in the home’s kitchen.
Oaks said Signal Hill firefighters also were dispatched to help fight the fire, as was a tanker from the Villa Hills Fire Department. He said the tanker was necessary because there are no hydrants in the subdivision. He said the residents’ dog died in the fire, but no one was injured.
Oaks said the family who lives in the home refused help from the Red Cross, because they had relatives in the area. He said the home was not a total loss and would be habitable again after repairs were completed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
