Madison County man killed in single-car accident

Madison County authorities have released the identity of a man who died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday.

Kevin R. Stevenson, 54, of Hamel, was driving a 2014 red Nissan northbound on Brakhane Road about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, and witnesses reported that the car was being driven erratically at a high rate of speed, according to the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

He turned on Staunton Road and lost control of the car about 20 feet north of Schein Road, running into a culvert and power pole. Stevenson was ejected from the car. He was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled to take place Thursday morning, along with routine toxicology testing. The death was under investigation by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Dauderman Mortuary.
