Business Briefing: White Cottage wraps up another season
Another season of ice cream is winding down at White Cottage in Belleville.
The ice cream stand and eatery at 102 Lebanon Ave. will close for the season on Sunday. The business has been serving cool and frozen treats to Belleville-area customers for about six decades.
White Cottage is expecting to reopen sometime in March for its next season.
Dow Jones bounces back
A day after plunging more than 300 points, the Dow Jones industrial average is back up 14 points to 16,014 in early trading Tuesday. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index is up three points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,885, while the Nasdaq composite remains steady at 4,544. Read more here.

Volkswagen has reported that 1.8 million commercial vehicles have been affected by the auto maker’s emission scandal. Volkswagen AG has admitted to rigging emissions tests using engine software to enhance the results in some 11 million vehicles worldwide. Learn more here.
Japan Tobacco buying American company
Japan Tobacco is purchasing the non-U.S. assets of Reynolds American’s Natural American Spirit. Reynolds American Inc. the second-biggest tobacco company in the United States and is the parent of Camel and Pall Mall cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds. The deal is estimated at $5 billion in cash.
