Caseyville officers witness suicide
Caseyville police officers responding to a report of a suicidal subject at a home on South Main Street Wednesday afternoon witnessed that subject commit suicide.
According to a post on the police department’s Facebook page, officers responded to the home in the 700 block of South Main Street at around 3:30 p.m. While the officers were there, “the subject died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the post stated.
Caseyville Police Chief Frank Moore said Wednesday evening that the Illinois State Police were summoned to take over the investigation. He would not provide additional details about the person who died or what led up to the incident.
State police investigators were not available for comment Wednesday evening.
No other individuals or police officers were reported hurt in the incident.
The last time Caseyville police responded to a suicide, the victim was one of their own. Officer Scott Miller, 48, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his squad car on Sept. 17.
