Spill stretching hundreds of feet closes road in Cahokia
Range Lane in Cahokia from Jerome to Richard was closed part of Wednesday as emergency and local crews worked to clean up some hydraulic fluid that leaked from a truck and left the area slippery.
The impacted area was near Cahokia Senior High School.
Cahokia Police Captain Dave Landmann said a call regarding a substance on the road came in to the police department at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
That substance, which was later found to be hydraulic fluid, was “causing cars that were traveling on Range, between Jerome and Richard to lose control,” Landmann said.
The spill covered at least one-third of a mile. Traffic was redirected as the St. Clair County HAZMAT team, the Cahokia Fire Department and members of the Cahokia Street Department worked to clean up the spill.
