Body found in Mississippi near Granite City

A body found in the Mississippi River on Wednesday may have been a missing person who reportedly jumped from a bridge last Saturday.

Madison City Police and the Madison County coroner’s office were notified shortly before noon Wednesday that a body had been found near the low water dam close to Granite City. The coroner’s office is proceeding with an investigation.

According to the coroner’s statement, the body has not yet been positively identified. However, it is believed that the body may be that of a missing person who was reported to have jumped from the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge on Sept. 26.
