Three vehicles and a Metro bus were involved in a chain reaction crash that occurred on West Boulevard at Old Collinsville Road in Belleville Thursday evening.

A crash involving a Metro bus and three other vehicles sent at least three people to the hospital and temporarily closed part of West Boulevard Thursday evening.

The bus and other involved vehicles all were northbound on West Boulevard passing through the Old Collinsville Road intersection at 5:46 p.m. when the first car in a line of three, a silver Chevrolet van, struck the rear of the bus. A gold Chevrolet Malibu that was behind the van struck the van’s rear. A black Dodge Avenger that was behind the Malibu struck the rear of the Malibu.

Firefighters and paramedics strapped at least three people to backboards at the scene. They all were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. None of those injured was a passenger on the bus.

The bus did not sustain any significant damage. The silver van sustained minor front and rear damage, the Malibu sustained moderate damage to its front and rear ends and the Avenger sustained heavy front-end damage.

Police were not available to comment on what caused the crash or whether anyone was issued a citation.
